They Once Played
Garden Gallery, Incline Village, NV 2023
A pop-up show consisting of this single sculpture based off readings regarding inequality in the United States prison system. Based on a game played by slave children in the South. The sculpture is viewed through a transom from inside a tent 100 yards distant. As if looking through time yet somehow rooted within our own time the viewer observes an imprisoned stump surrounded by ropes with nooses holding each other. It could be observed day and night via the spotlights on the stump.
